This last weekend's regatta was lots of fun and went very well. In their first ever district championships the varsity team finished 4th out of 11 teams. They were competing against very established teams who were all very impressed to see the Bellingham team right up there at the front. Many of the other coaches told me after racing how good our team is doing for being so new. So good job to everyone for the hard work.
The conditions this weekend were extreme. The wind on Saturday was 20-25 mph over some large waves so only the varsity fleet sailed. It made for some challenging conditions and resulted in many capsizes. It was very exciting to watch from the docks. Eventually racing was postponed as we waited for the winds to die down a bit. Sunday was the opposite with very light winds. Sailing was slow and frustrating, but racing still went on. JV fleet was then able to sail and our team had its ups and downs but performed very well in the light conditions.
The camping was a blast. The team had two cabins with bunk beds, one for the girls and one for the boys. We all enjoyed playing frisbee, listening to Riley on the guitar, playing games and eating well.
It was a very successful regatta with impressive results. Results are below:
UPCOMING:
