Welcome to the BYC Youth Sailing Program

NOTICE:

After exhaustive research and debate it is with great regret that the BYC will cancel all youth and adult learn to sail programs and youth race team training this summer. The current conditions do not allow us to run group activities. We hope to see you all back on the water in 2021 with a new website, early registration and expanded programs should we be on the other side of Covid-19 by then.

Stay well

Mike Powell

BYC Youth Fleet Capt.

We offer instruction in various sizes of dinghies matched to the ages of our participants.  We also offer a formal Keelboat Camp giving our youth sailors a taste of handling a larger keelboat. This course emphasizes boat handling and teamwork. Our Cruising Camp has been so popular that we now offer two Cruising Camps; a Beginner Cruising Camp and Advanced Cruising Camp for our more experienced students.

The BYC’s Youth Sailing Program provides kids ages of 8-18 the opportunity to learn sailing on Bellingham Bay from U.S. Sailing certified instructors. Membership in the BYC is not required to participate in the BYC’s youth sailing classes.

The Youth Sailing Program is very active and includes summer sailing and racing classes taught by US Sailing certified instructors, weekly dinghy racing, a Youth Club which sponsors many social activities and a youth fun room with a pool table, ping pong table, electric darts, air hockey table and a Foosball table.

In addition to our BYC Youth Race Team summer program, for youths interested in racing at the high school level, BYC is the primary sponsor of the Whatcom Community High School Sailing Team formed in 2008. For more information check the BYC Race Team links on this page.
